According to Russia's Ministry of Agriculture, as of March 6, 2016 (from January 1 to March 6), the volume of imported agricultural products from Morocco to Russia increased by 43.9% to US $126.6 million. Of this amount, tomatoes grew by nearly three times as much to 44 thousand tonnes, while the supply volume of other vegetables grew by nearly twice as much - up to about 2 thousand tonnes.

Russia's President, Vladimir Putin, met with the King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, who travelled to Russia for an official visit to discuss pressing issues facing the countries' cooperation as well as international issues.

Deputies of Russia's State Duma are planning to develop a bill to stimulate the program to substitute imports of foreign products with domestic agricultural produce, deputy speaker of the State Duma Alexander Zhukov said.

As of January 1, Russia officially banned imports of several types of Ukrainian goods from entering the country. However, there were remaining issues regarding the transit of goods to Kazakhstan from Ukraine by way of Russia. In response to these concerns, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree entitled “Measures to Ensure Economic Security and National Interests of the Russian Federation in the International Transit of Foods from the Territory of Ukraine to the Republic of Kazakhstan through the territory if the Russian Federation”.

Russia has made a breakthrough in the agricultural sector in a short amount of time, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a his address to the federal assembly. “Just 10 years ago we practically imported half of [our] food from abroad, dependent on imports,” Putin said. “Now Russia is one of the exporters.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his confidence in the prospects of Latin American imports during his meeting with Argentine President Cristina Kirchner. Putin said that developing a relationship between the two countries would give Russians the “opportunity to eat a good lunch”.

Alexander Tkachev, the head of Russia's Ministry of Agriculture, brought to the table during a meeting, which Russian President Vladimir Putin attended, the topic that inspections of pesticides used in agriculture should be conducted regularly.

At the core of the statement made by Russia's President, Vladimir Putin, was the 40 percent drop in food product imports of to the Russian market. It's important to focus on improving the position of domestic production for producers within the country.
