Despite a 7 percent increase in banana imports from Ecuador and a 9 percent increase in supplies from Guatemala from January to August, the Russian market decreased its overall banana purchases by 5 percent.

Moscow-based transportation company UralVagonZavod is planning to construct road and rail equipment for Thailand in exchange for fruit. The types of fruit that the enterprise is interested in are currently unknown, but they are presumably: bananas, coconuts and pineapples.

As Mexico looks for opportunities to increase its fruit exports, Francisco de Rosenzweig, undersecretary for foreign trade in the ministry of Economy, banana shipments from Mexico to Russia might reach as much as 2.1 thousand tonnes of fruit by the end of the year.

Increasing potato supplies from Egypt was developed as a result of joint efforts of specialists of Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) and officials of Egyptian Plant Quarantine of the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture, according to a press release of Rosslkhoznadzor.

Mexico's Ambassador to Russia Ruben Beltran said that exporters in Mexico have already sent six batches of bananas in its first shipment to Russia, according to a news report by RIA Novosti.

Ecuador's Ambassador to Russia, Patricio Alberto Chavez Zavala, while leading a delegation of Ecuadorian entrepreneurs in Yekaterinburg, Russia, said that only 20 percent of the trade potential between the two countries is currently being utilized.
