Starting August 1, Russia is issuing temporary restrictions on direct imports from Poland, as well as shipments through a third party, of fruits and vegetables originating from the country, according to information released by Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance agency (Rosselkhoznadzor) on its official website.
Opinions of the Russian fresh produce market players gathered by FruitNews.ru demonstrated that 2013 was a difficult year for many Russian fruit and vegetables suppliers. Bad weather had negative impact on crop of some vegetables and fruit in Russia and countries – suppliers. Restrictions on fresh produce shipments to Russia from several regions of origin limited the available supply possibilities. Many companies in Moscow experienced problems with fresh produce storage, when one of the biggest warehouse complexes in this city was closed. And negative changes in consumers' behavior and purchasing power became evident at the end of the year.
