Import Substitution Of Agricultural Products In Russia Reaches 80%

04 June 2015

Russia's imports substitution efforts reach 80 percent and appears to be on its way to 90 percent, according to the country's Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich. In order to further support import substitution, another task lies ahead of the agriculture industrial complex – processing raw agricultural products, he said.

“We have the fastest growing agricultural economy, AIG (agricultural industrial complex). Here the rate of growth is high and the level of self-sufficiency is the highest compared to other industries. We already exceeded the bar of 80 percent and are approaching 90 percent,” according to a report by TASS, quoting Dvorkovich.

Regarding the processing of raw materials, the official said that “we have only just started filling the volume”. According to official data, the Russian market is still heavily dependent on imported fruits and vegetables. If Russia is to address these problems, it will be a matter of increasing storage facilities and increasing production of fruit and vegetable products, Dvorkovich said.
