Overall, Russia bought 419,64 thousand tonnes of garlic and onions in 2014, according to the county's Federal Customs Service. This volume of food was 38.7 percent more than in 2013. The monetary value of the shipments last season reached US $253,79 thousand, an increase of 24.9 percent on the year.
As published in the research “Russian Forecast”, which was conducted by specialists at the AnalyticResearchGroup, for five months out of 2015 Russia purchased 216,6 thousand tonnes of products at a cost of US $117,13 thousand.
In just May of this year, exporters shipped 94,42 thousand tonnes of onions and garlic, which was a 14,8 percent on-year drop. The cost of these imports reached US $45,41 thousand, a 22,9 percent on-year decrease.
Ranking second behind China for garlic and onion exports to Russia in 2014, was he Netherlands, which had shipped 105,5 thousand tonnes for US $57,49 thousand.
