Russia's Rosselkhoznadzor Mulls Restricting Moldovan Imports Over Re-Export Concerns

03 February 2016

According to a press release, the head of Russia's Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Service (Rosselkhoznadzor) Sergey Dankvert together with the Director of the Main State Inspection Service for Seed Production, Quarantine and Plant Protection of Belarus Leonid Pleshko confirmed instances of illegal re-export from Europe which were shipped as if they were Moldovan grown produce.

The sharp rise in exports from Moldova has caused inspectors of Russia and Belarus to suspect that re-exports of European products could be the cause.

According to an official announcement from a press release of Rosselkhoznadzor: “On this note, Rosselkhoznadzor reported that it does not rule out the likelihood of placing restrictions on products and companies, which have already been observed in taking part such illegal action."

In the near future, the department also reported that a delegation of authorized representatives of Rosselkhoznadzor are to visit Moldova to check the areas involved in the cultivation, storage and pre-sale operations of produce.
