Medvedev: Sanctions Will Remain So Long As There's External Pressure On Russia Featured

16 March 2016

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that economic measures against the West are here to stay while there is still external pressure on Russia, according to RIA Novosti.

Development and focus on the country's agricultural sector have been on the rise since the introduction of economic sanctions in 2014 and that the situation has allowed for import substitution initiatives to take hold. He also highlighted agricultural producers' quick response to the new situation created by the economic restrictions.

Some examples of progress include Russia's ability to meet the country's domestic demand for wheat as well as for export this product from its own harvest yields. Also, Russia was able to provide for the country's consumer demand for potatoes, sugar and vegetable oil.
