Spice Sales Grow During Lent Featured

Spice traders and suppliers are expecting a jump in sales for various types of spices during Lent, based on last year's experiences.

The company Aidigo during Lent (February 23 - April 12) last year saw its sales of marjoram and dill double. Sales of bay leaf and rosemary had increased by 91% and 132%, respectively while sales of turmeric increased by 15% and black pepper by 49%. These aromatic spices are typically added to salads, potato dishes and rice (all of which are allowed during Lent).

According to the Director of Marketing and Advertisement, Ruslan Babitsina, noticed the trend last year when there was a growth in sales for many inexpensive 10-50 gram spice packets.
