30 March 2016

The head of the Russian Federal Customs Service (FCS) Andrey Belyaninov announced that the agency will be working to create a "green corridor" for goods imported from Syria, Iran and Italy.

However, the level of completion is at different stages depending on the country. The head of the agency explained that the corridor that exists with Turkey has not been shut down. In order to create such a corridor with Italy, it's necessary to gain a political understanding the political component.

Belyaninov also said that working with Iran has been settled, and the corresponding document is being approved. As for Syria, 3 thousand tonnes of exports are already waiting to be unloaded at the port in Novorossiysk. Soon these Syrian citrus fruits, tomatoes and cabbage will be delivered to Russian store shelves. At the moment, they are going through customs clearance.

The proposal to create a "green corridor" was sent to all countries of the European Union, many of which approve of such an idea, Belyaninov said. In the near future, Belgium and Luxembourg could consider building this relationship with Russia.
