The Trans-Caspian intermodal service FESCO Russia Iran Service (FRIS) will serve as a conduit for Russian shipments of ferrous metals, wood and machinery. Products from Iran will include food products, building materials and petrochemical products.
The service includes carrying shipments across the Caspian Sea, then by rail transport and/or by vehicle within Russia. In Iran, transport will be done by vehicle as well as transhipment at the ports of Olya and Nowshehr or Bandar Anzali.
Sending and receiving containers and general cargo for transport will be handled by FESCO. The estimated transit time between the Russian port of Olya and the ports of Iran is five days. On March 13, a pilot shipment containing industrial goods was sent to Iran.
The total travel time en route to St. Petersburg to Nowshehr is about 3.8 thousand kilometers - 18 days. New shipments are scheduled for the end of March- April.
