Russia’s Director of the International Department of Cooperation of the Ministry of Agriculture (Minselkhoz) Olga Garshina met with the head of the Greece’s agricultural policy department of international relations and the promotion of food of the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Evangelia Kurenda.
The roadmap they developed provides for the development of cooperation in a number of areas including increasing the volume of bilateral trade for agricultural products; increasing Greece’s exports, which are not affected by the Russian embargo; developing a partnership between the two countries’ science and research institutes for the exchange of technology in the field of aquaculture; cooperation in the field of viticulture and wine making; the implementation of joint investment projects, as the organization of the events of the “Year of Russia in Greece” and the “Year of Greece in Russia”.
The year 2016 sets the stage for cooperation between the two countries because this year was named “The Year of Greece in Russia” and “The Year of Russia in Greece”. This particular arrangement came about as a result of a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in 2015.
Garshina and Kuredina discussed in detail the possible activities to implement within the context of “Year of Russia in Greece” and the “Year of Greece in Russia”, as well as considering the presentation of Russian and Greek agricultural products during the “International Multidisciplinary Exhibition” in Thessaloniki (September 10 – 18, 2016, the Hellenic Republic) and the 18th Russian agricultural exhibition “Golden Autumn 2016” (October 5-9, 2016).
