The first foreign tranche will amount to 444 million tenge (about US $1.3 million), according to correspondents of the region. A quarter of a century ago, the climate of the Ayazoz District allowed for irrigation, had fertile soil and was suitable for apple production. But in recent years, the orchards have become desolated.
The New Kazakh-Iranian project to revive apple orchards entails that all old trees be removed and the land restored. Active work to clean up the area and plant seedlings is scheduled to begin in May.
“If the work goes according to plan, we are intending to clear the land entirely from existing plants and plant our varieties that have been adapted to our conditions and will be planted on a developed area and drip irrigation,” Bayahmetov Bakytzhan, Akim of the Ayagoz District of eastern Kazakhstan.
