Russia's greenhouse vegetable production increased 6.7 percent on the year in 2013, according to Russia's Federal State Statistics Service.
The area that experienced the largest growth in 2013 was the Urals Federal District, which saw an increase of about 28 percent, according to the agency.
The greenhouse industry in Russia is concentrated on growing tomatoes, cucumbers, greens and leafy vegetables.
The total area of greenhouse facilities reached 1.8 thousand hectares, or 44 479 acres, by the end of 2013.
According to industry experts, this area is expected to continue to grow with many large scale projects to be launched in the Belgorod Region, which has designated 400-500 hectares, or 988 - 1,236 acres, for this purpose.
