The group of companies "Gavrish" (Moscow) is planning to invest about 200 million rubles to build greenhouses to produce vegetable seeds in the Krymsk region of Krasnodar.

According to Russia’s Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) the total harvest volume of fruit and berry production at orchards of agricultural organisations in 2015 dropped by 5.1 percent on the year to 612.5 thousand tonnes. The average amount harvested per hectare of land, however, grew by 13.3 percent – 9.7 tonnes per hectare.

Vegetable growers of Ust-Labinsk Region of the Krasnodar Krai are reporting that there has been a lack of state support for food production which has resulted in about one thousand tonnes of Kuban pumpkins, radishes, carrots and other vegetables left sitting in storage as “dead weight” as trade networks are not interested in purchasing them.

The Arabian company of the United Arab Emirates Selkar Trading F.Z.E. is ready to discuss the opening a greenhouse complex in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai with local authorities, according to the Bureau of Investment Policy Department for Investments and Small and Medium Business of Kuban.

Many companies from the European Union (EU) have suffered following the introduction of sanctions that prohibited produce from entering Russia. However, more and more companies have shown an interest in opening up business on Russian territory.

Greenhouses crop up in the Krasnodar and Lipetsk, while the exclave of Kaliningrad looks to export its surplus of goods to the rest of Russia.

In response to the comments of Russia's prime minister, Dmitry Medvedev, regarding the quality of Polish fruit and vegetable products, the head of Poland's Union of Orchards, Miroslav Malishevsky, wants the official to take a look at Poland's orchards for himself.

Kuban is planning to develop a public- private partnership while focusing on the development of seed production in the region. This is expected to allow the Krasnodar Krai to decrease its dependence on imported seed and planting materials.

The Krasnodar region is planning to be able to harvest as much as 100 thousand tonnes of greenhouse vegetables by 2018 due to current initiatives in this sector, such as with the possibile commissioning of cool storage facilities and product silos. The region expects this year's harvest to amount to seventy thousand tonnes of vegetables.

Russia's province of Kuban in the Krasnodar Krai, located northeast of the Black Sea, is making plans to increase the region's production of canned foods to reach a goal of 970 million jars in 2015.
